Yamaha MT-10 is a Civilized YZF-R1

The Yamaha YZF-R1 is certainly one of the most extreme street legal superbikes made today, but don’t confuse “street legal” with “perfectly usable for the daily commute.” Consequently, the company that also dabbles in musical instruments and the occasional engine for high performance Toyota products has released the MT-10. Although its torquey 998cc inline-four, slipper clutch and multi-mode traction control system are based on those found on the aforementioned R1, the upright riding position and mellower intake and exhaust tuning make it considerably easier to live with Monday through Friday. About the only bone we have to pick with this 158 horsepower motorcycle is that Yamaha doesn’t see a need to sell the MT-10 here in the U.S. Hopefully they’ll come to their senses sooner rather than later…
