Rezvani Beast Alpha X Blackbird is a Low-Flying Thrill Ride

It’s pretty staggering that the fastest airplane in the world (that the public knows about, at least, because there’s no telling what’s buzzing around …) is still the Lockheed SR-71 Blackbird, a vehicle designed in the early 1960s using a process that still relied quite heavily on pencils and slide rules. Slightly less staggering is how quickly Rezvani has gone from germ of an idea to a builder of two vehicle lines, the Beast sports car and the Tank SUV. And now there’s a version of the former inspired by and named for and team’s magnum opus.

The Rezvani Beast Alpha X Blackbird takes the already extreme Beast Alpha X (the hot version of the regular Beast Alpha, which features a removable roof panel) and pushes it even farther over the line of insanity. Its Cosworth-developed 2.5L turbocharged inline-four has been tuned to develop a claimed 700 horsepower, which represents a 100 horsepower leap over the regular Alpha X. Buyers will be able choose between a 6-speed manual or a sequential semi-automatic transmission, though we’re guessing the latter will be needed if you want to heave this 2,150 lbs. ride to 60 mph from a dead stop in the claimed 2.9 seconds. And you’ll have to be even quicker to get your hands on one of these rocket sleds, as just five will be made, with a starting price of $225,000 a pop.
