Porsche Panamera Turbo S E-Hybrid is Asphalt Assault with Batteries [w/ Videos]

The Porsche Panamera S E-Hybrid – particularly the new second generation model – is a quite appealing automobile. But while it has no trouble getting out of its own way, it still gets smoked by the all-gas-all-the-time Panamera Turbo, and it’s mere cannon fodder for the more mighty versions of the all-electric Tesla Model S. Can’t Porsche build a Panamera that combines serious eco cred with vertigo-inducing acceleration and athleticism? Well, as it turns out…yes: Say hey to the 2018 Panamera Turbo S E-Hybrid.

Available in both standard and long wheelbase Executive bodies, this green machine marries the regular Turbo’s 550 horsepower 4.0L twin-turbo V8 with the S E-Hybrid’s 136 horsepower electric motor to yield a combined 680 horsepower and 627 lb.-ft of torque. Those figures make the Panamera Turbo S E-Hybrid the most muscular current Porsche by a comfortable margin, and only a bit weaker than the brand’s most powerful production model ever, the 918 Spyder. This super sedan is also just a couple steps behind the 918 Spyder in terms of acceleration (0-60 mph in 3.2 seconds) and top speed (192 mph), and it also shares the short-lived hypercar’s ability to run solely on battery power (31 miles on a full charge and a deft right foot). Those are all impressive stats…that come with an imposing price tag: $185,450 for the short wheelbase, and $195,850 for the Executive, though those numbers do include the $1,050 destination charge, if that helps…
