Misha Designs Body Kit Turns the Porsche 991 into a GT3-Lite
The new 991-based Porsche 911 GT3 has a lot of things going for it: Four-wheel steering, 475 horsepower from an engine that revs to 9,000 rpm and 20” center-lock wheels are just some of the performance-centric goodies that are standard on Stuttgart’s newest GT racer for the road. But it also has some things working against it: It commands significantly more money than a mere Carrera or Carrera S and, unlike those two models, it’s only available with Porsche’s PDK twin-clutch transmission, much to the dismay of many purists.
But what if there was a way to get bewinged, ground-hugging looks of reminiscent of the GT3 in a cheaper, available-with-a-stick regular 991? It turns out there is. And the first step involves putting in a call to Misha Designs.
Up front, there’s a new bumper that appears to incorporate the stock 991 front turn signals as well as bigger vents and more of them. The front trunk lid features a pair of rear-facing vents on either side of a raised center section. Fatter side skirts help make the car appear lower. A new rear bumper features large vents and a diffuser with room for beefy quad tailpipes, and a snazzy GT3-style spoiler. Collectively, these parts turn a current 911 into a distinctive – but not garish – sports car.
Additionally, Misha Designs says all of the parts will attach to the stock hinges and mounting points, and they’ll fit either the narrow-body Carrera/Carrera S or the Carrera 4/Carrera 4S with its wider rear fenders. Plus, select parts like the front splitter and rear wing main plane are available in clearcoated carbon fiber. Misha Designs hasn’t discussed pricing for this kit yet, but based solely on looks, we say it’s a buy.
