If you were to go to your local newsstand (assuming you still have one) and flip through the latest issue of your favoritemuscle car/hot roddingmagazine, chances are nearly all of the feature cars would be of the super-pressed-out variety. You know the type: A booming V8 assembled from exotic components, h interior, a paintjob more expensive than a new loadedCorolla, and billet aluminum EVERYWHERE. While we can appreciate such show ponies, we struggle to get excited about them. Why? All that fluff makes such vehicles a) too nice to run hard and put away wet, and b) such bling can compromise performance.
That’s why we’re smitten withGreg Smith’s1967 Ford Mustang Fastback. The period looks (right down the black California license plates), no-frills cockpit and zero pretensions of being able to stop and turn nearly as well as it accelerates are just so…refreshing. We even dig the rivet holes from a previous hood scoop being left in this classicMustang’s engine lid. Hopefully this is just the beginning of a move toward “honest” modifiedmuscle carsthat are true to their quarter-mile-sprinting roots, as opposed to modified muscle cars that try to go tit-for-tat with modernsports carsandsupercars.
