Hennessey Celebrates its 25th Anniversary the Only Way it Knows How
What were you up to in 1991 (assuming you were even born yet)? John Hennessey was setting up a business to hop up the turbocharged, AWD versions of the Mitsubishi 3000GT and Dodge Stealth. Jump ahead to today and his Texas tuning house is one of the most diverse and prolific in the world, never mind the country. So how does Hennessey celebrate its silver anniversary? By upgrading an already hot car, of course.
The Hennessey 25th Anniversary Edition HPE800 Ford Mustang starts out as a new Mustang GT coupe or convertible with the buyer’s pick of the 6-speed manual or 6-speed automatic transmission. To that already menacing muscle car, Hennessey techs add a CarbonAero front splitter, rear spoiler and side skirts, 20” Hennessey H10 wheels, a Hennessey/KW lowering kit, 15” Brembo front brakes, and special 25th anniversary graphics and badges inside and out. Under the hood, the HPE800 package tops the 5.0L V8 with a 2.9L supercharger, a carbon fiber cold air intake system, an ECU tune and other goodies to lift output to 804 horsepower and 648 lb.-ft of torque when mated to the manual gearbox and running on 93-octane gas.
As you can imagine, this celebratory screamer is comically fast, lunging to 60 mph in a claimed 3.1 seconds and maxing out at 207.9 mph. That’s ungodly fast…but not as fast as the 25 examples (priced at $99,500 the cost of a new Mustang GT) are sure to sell out.
