Chopard L.U.C Perpetual T Spirit of the Chinese Zodiac is a Sign of the Times
Watches are great for telling time on smaller scales, but when it comes to tracking longer durations, nothing beats a calendar. And few calendars are as old or as popular as the Chinese Zodiac. So it’s only natural that Swiss watch manufacturer Chopard would incorporate the creature-centric dozen-year system into a new special edition timepiece.
The Chopard L.U.C Perpetual T Spirit of the Chinese Zodiac, as this marvelous machine has been dubbed, is built in and around a rose gold case whose ornate details (including all 12 zodiac signs) took about 200 hours to engrave by hand. The painstaking detailing extends to the bezel and even the buckle on the leather strap, while the 02.15-L movement (with more than a week’s worth of power reserve) drives a perpetual calendar and tourbillon in addition to the main watch mechanism. Pretty incredible…but not as incredible as the fact that this is strictly a one-off, meaning just a solitary person at a time – likely an attendee of an upcoming private collector expo in Beijing where Chopard will be showing this watch – will be able to experience its artistry firsthand, er, firstwrist.
