2019 Ferrari 488 Pista is the Long-Awaited Track-Ready Turbo Fezza

We’ve known for quite some time that the Ferrari 458 Speciale will go down in history as the mightiest ever roadgoing Ferrari powered by a naturally aspirated V8. The 488 GTB’s switch to a twin-turbocharged 3.9L V8 made made it clear the hardcore 488 would use a similar powerplant; the only questions that remained would be what it would be called, how powerful it would be, and when it would arrive. Now, after a surprisingly lengthy wait, we have the answers to those questions.

Its name is the Ferrari 488 Pista (pista being the Italian word for circuit or track), it makes 710 horsepower and 568 lb.-ft of torque from its upgraded (with parts like an Inconel exhaust system, titanium connecting rods, carbon fiber intake runners and a lightweight crank and flywheel) version of the 488 GTB’s engine. That added thrust, coupled with less weight (198 lbs.), optimized aerodynamics in the nose, rear diffuser and integral rear wing (Ferrari claims a 20% increase in overall downforce relative to the 488 GTB.) and upgrades to electronic driver aids like E-Diff3, F-Trac and Side-Slip Angle Control, should make the 2019 Ferrari 488 Pista (with its claimed 2.85 second 0-62 mph time and 211 mph top speed) more than a match for the likes of the Lamborghini Huracan Performante and McLaren 720S when it enters production later this year after making its physical debut at next month’s Geneva Motor Show.
