In the world of four-cylinder superbikes, MV Agusta is arguably the most aspirational of aspirational brands, yet still manages to be pretty attainable. But not everyone wants or needs four-cylinders or almost 200 horsepower in a motorcycle. Some folks just want something that’s a bit lighter and a bit less intimidating, but is still a blast to ride.

Now MV Agusta is ready to cater to those types of buyers with its first modern triple, the all new F3 675. But the three-cylinder engine under the tank isn’t the only noteworthy feature of this bike. There’s also a sizable suite of electronics designed to get the full potential out of those three pounding pistons.

But before we get into all the computer whiz-bangery, let’s first circle back to the engine. As the name implies, it displaces 675cc and produces 126hp and 52 lb.-ft of torque. The three tailpipes through which that powerplant breathes are as artful as they are functional. And when you consider that it revs clear up to 15,000 rpm, it really needs to be able to breathe. Other key features of the engine include a counter-rotating crankshaft, titanium valves and two fuel injectors per cylinder.

Of course, you can have the most horsepower and broadest torque curve of any engine in the world, but it doesn’t mean anything if you can’t get it to the ground. That’s where MV Agusta’s new MVICS (Motor & Vehicle Integrated Control System) feature comes into play. In addition to the obligatory multiple traction control levels (eight of them) and engine maps (four of ‘em), there’s also a fifth engine map that can be configured by the owner, a launch control mode with an anti-wheelie program, and an EAS (Electronically Assisted Shift) system to allow for faster gearchanges.

And lest you assume the only fancy bits are in the engine and gearbox, be aware that the F3 675 also has fully adjustable 43mm Marzocchi front forks, a Sachs rear shock, and Brembo radial calipers. Plus, the whole kit and caboodle tips the scales at just 381 lbs., so what little mass this baby does have can change direction quite easily. That should make you (and the ghost of Isaac Newton) happy.

Another thing that will make you happy? The fact that the F3 675 (specifically the “Serie Oro” debut edition) will be landing in European showrooms next month, so you can bet it will arrive in this country soon after. The asking price on the Continent is 11,900 euros, so figure on a slightly higher figure with a dollar sign in front of it when it lands on our shores. And if you ask us, the Triumph Speed Triple is going to need something more than an umbrella when the F3 675 lands on its proverbial head.
